Throttle body cleaning

Cleaning the valve that controls how much air goes into the engine.

In plain English

The throttle body is a valve between the air filter and the engine. When you press the gas pedal, a flap inside opens to let in more air. Over time a film of carbon and oil builds up around the flap. Cleaning it means removing that buildup with a solvent.

Why it's on your estimate

Buildup can cause a rough or unsteady idle, stalling when coming to a stop, or a hesitant gas pedal. Some shops also offer it as a routine add-on service.

How urgent is it?

Can usually wait

If the car idles and drives normally, this is usually optional. It is worth doing when you actually have idle or stalling symptoms.
